Updates from Foster Home:

Pupdate 1: Cherry is a spunky girl with a giant heart who's looking for a partner that shares her spark. Cherry is strong-willed and takes some time to trust, but the love that comes with her trust is steadfast and rewarding.

Cherry recently completed her heartworm treatment and has bounced back with a renewed energy in life. She truly finds joy in most every one of life's moments: she loves a car ride, even if just to the grocery store; fresh piles of mulch and snow are her favorite for doing zoomies; and playing in the yard is just as fun as relaxing on a sunny day. She will cheerfully accompany you on walks, runs, and bike rides, and is happy to chase a ball outdoors, around a basement, through tall grass, and even across ice! But if it's a restful afternoon that you need, she is perfectly content to enjoy a bone or rest nearby. At the end of the day, your company is her favorite thing.

As much as Cherry loves every human that she meets, her relationship with other dogs is tough. While on a walk, she can pass a strange pup across the street and pay them no mind. She may bark at a dog that's visible from a home window, but that's not a regular thing and she calms down easily. However, meeting dogs directly makes her very nervous, and Cherry thinks she needs to be the dominant dog in the situation. This leads to reactive behavior and can escalate if both dogs are not managed appropriately.

Cherry walks best with a prong collar, is ecollar trained, and very treat motivated. With the trust developed in time and this training, she has been able to participate in "pack walks" with other dogs. Though direct interactions and relationships with other dogs are still not easy and would require many weeks to work up to.

Cherry knows all her basic commands: sit, down, place, come, break, and to wait for food. She does well in a crate, but is not crated regularly in her foster home. Instead, when her fosters are gone, she is alone in a bedroom in which she has never harmed anything. She is fully house trained and handles long work days (9-10 hours) like a champ.

To sum it up, Cherry is a medium energy pup that loves to play, but is happy to rest too. She loves to be near your side, but is also a good girl when left home alone or if you'd like her to sleep separately. Though strong-willed, she is a quick learner, very treat motivated, and aims to please you. With a bit of hard work, she will reward you with wonderful snuggles and loyalty. Truly, the smile on her face will brighten your day.
